Psalm 8
1 O LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens.
2 Out of the mouth of babies and infants,
you have established strength because of your foes,
to still the enemy and the avenger.3When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
4 what is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him?5Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings
and crowned him with glory and honor.
6You have given him dominion over the works of your hands;
you have put all things under his feet,
7all sheep and oxen,
and also the beasts of the field,
8the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea,
whatever passes along the paths of the seas.9O LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
Out of the mouths of babes and infants you have established strength … to still the enemy and the avenger. – The victories of the Christian life are not due to our strength, ability, wisdom … . God can still His enemies through the use of the completely incompetent, fragile, ignorant things.
In fact, He does, because He chooses to use us. We don’t like to think that we are chosen because of nothing in us, but such is the case. This is the consistent testimony throughout Scripture. Think of Gideon, David, Paul, Peter and many others throughout Scripture. God shares His glory with no one but He gets great glory from doing great thing through those who, without Him, can do nothing.
It is all about Him and that should just thrill us.
Go into this day with great boldness and confidence if you are a believer. The One who can do whatever He pleases (Psalm 115) is for you, in you, and with you.
